“I’ve always approached my career and my life, you know, one day at a time as if this was the last day that I’m going because you never know as an athlete and as a dancer. You never know what can happen today tomorrow.” -MISTY COPELAND-
Misty Danielle Copeland is an American ballet dancer for American Ballet Theatre (ABT). ABT is one of the three leading classical ballet companies in the United States. On June 30, 2015, Misty Copeland became the first African American woman to be promoted to principal dancer in ABT’s 75-year history.
When I read Misty’s words, I couldn’t help but internalize it. As an example, from October to March, I was preparing for the 15th annual Children’s Sports & Fitness Expo. Unbeknownst to me, the event was not going to happen in 2020. My team and I put a lot of time and energy into the planning of this event. I remember it like it was yesterday. Our hopes were dashed seemingly overnight. The cancellation occurred during the early stages of COVID-19.
Businesses, schools, churches, along with all community events, were all being canceled. Misty’s words ring true; You really should live your life one day at a time. You never know what can happen today or tomorrow.
