When we think about health, we often focus on exercise, nutrition, sleep, and disease prevention. But true wellness goes far beyond physical fitness. Emotional health, mental well-being, and feeling safe are just as important—especially for families.
At Six Weeks to Fitness, our mission has always been to help adults add more life to their years. That includes supporting organizations that create healthier communities for children, parents, educators, and caregivers alike. One of our inaugural Founding Health Partners, the United Federation of Teachers (UFT), is making a meaningful difference through its BRAVE (Brave Against Bullying) initiative. The program provides students with confidential access to trained counselors through text messaging, online chat, and a dedicated hotline, ensuring young people have somewhere to turn when facing bullying or emotional challenges.
Why does this matter to adults over 40?
Many adults today are parents, grandparents, teachers, mentors, or guardians. A child experiencing bullying often impacts the emotional health of the entire household. Anxiety, stress, sleep disruption, and declining school performance can affect family relationships and create added pressure on caregivers. Research continues to show that mental and emotional wellness are essential components of lifelong health. Healthy families begin with safe environments where children feel heard, respected, and supported. That’s why we’re proud to recognize the United Federation of Teachers as one of our Founding Health Partners. Their commitment to student well-being reflects a broader commitment to healthier communities—something we wholeheartedly support.
As we continue building a movement around healthy aging and healthspan, we’ll also shine a spotlight on organizations that understand wellness is about more than muscles and nutrition. It’s about creating stronger people, stronger families, and stronger communities. If you know a student who needs support or simply someone to listen, the UFT’s BRAVE program offers confidential resources including text, online chat, and a dedicated hotline.
