Quote of the Week – DENZEL WASHINGTON

Denzel Washington is one of the most admired actors in Hollywood.  He is a positive role model who doesn’t have a problem speaking his mind.  When he said “I pray that you all put your shoes way under the bed at night so that you gotta get on your knees in the morning to find them, and while you’re down there thank God for grace and mercy and understanding,” I’m sure he was speaking about humility.  Most of us take life for granted.

We go to bed at night, get up in the morning without giving thanks.  I believe we all should have an “attitude of gratitude.”  Where would we be if it wasn’t for God?  Most of us seem to think that life owes us something just for being here.  What if we got that wrong?  Maybe we owe life something.  If more of us gave back, then more us would in turn, receive more.  I truly believe you get what you give.  You give love, you get back love.  You give hate, you get back hate.

I humble myself every day and give God thanks for waking me up in the morning.  I thank him for the food on the table and the ability to work and feed myself and my family.

What is Grace?  According to biblical teachings, grace is undeserved favor.  What is mercy? Mercy is showing compassion or forgiveness.  What is understanding?  When used as an adjective, it means sympathetically aware of other people’s feelings; tolerant and forgiving.

When you combine grace, mercy, and understanding, what do you get?  You get a thankful and humble human being and that’s what Denzel is referring to.

Can we all be a little more thankful and humble?
